Flirting and fishing on mobile phonesBy Jørgen Sundgot, Friday 7 December 2001
Virgin Mobile's customers in Singapore can now improve their flirting and fishing skills without having to go for the real thing - courtesy of RIOT-E's new mobile phone games.

As if it wasn't enough that some services offer monitoring of fishing conditions in rivers, while youths (and others as well) are increasingly making use of SMS to flirt, Virgin Mobile's customers in Singapore can now practice both fishing and flirting on their mobile phones. Courtesy of Riot Entertainment (RIOT-E), two new games are part of a new range of wireless entertainment services which mark the successful implementation of RIOT-E's publishing operations in Singapore

Launched as part of Virgin Mobile's mobile content offering, VirginXtra, Riot Entertainment's two newly launched services are all about using the right bait to get the prize. While the Fishing Game calls for experts in rods, nets and worms to score, Flirt helps users boost their pulling power by practising their moves in different social situations. In a recent survey by RIOT-E, SMS was revealed as the most popular way of chatting someone up, which should indicate that a flirting game for mobile phones

"Singapore is really leading the way when it comes to wireless entertainment," said Steven Frank, General Manager at RIOT-E Asia. "Most of the demand comes from the 15 - 25 age group and the services that we are offering with Virgin Mobile are designed to appeal to these users. "Over 65 percent of the population of Singapore currently owns a mobile phone and mobile entertainment is a huge area of growth in that market. Our unique content and mixture of games, chat, logos and ringtones are designed to appeal to all consumers - from simple but addictive single and multi-player games like the Fishing Game, to ideas on how to improve your love life," he continued.

Even though the infoSync staff are comprised of mobile phone and PDA lovers though, we'd still prefer the old-fashioned method of flirting. As for fishing, we're divided.
